I can't seem to find anything on Joe Chandler on this site, I've done several word searches and can't find anything. Can anyone help me out? Thank you.

I have researched as much or more as anyone on Chandler, but as for Chandler being the Zodiac killer, crime blogger Steve Huff is the guy that came up with that theory. Maybe I'll bring it up to date instead, if there is still an interest. I wrote that piece for an entirely different website (one with less serious subject matter), and it was doesn't written with complete sincerity. I added it to CrimeShadows.com for some starting content and never got around to rewriting it, except for cutting some of the content. Example: The original article speculated that the guy was really Richie Cunningham's older brother, Chuck. (yes, it's that bad.) It really would be interesting to find out who Chandler was. The resemblance to Stephen Craig Campbell is striking, but I can't sincerely say its a sure thing.

It would be a shame to delete Chandler entirely. It's an interesting story, though I doubt he is Zodiac, I would enjoy an update.

and not to beat a dead horse, but didn't i read on your site that at one point he was living in the VIRGIN islands... and darlene told her sister the man who was following her was from the virgin islands... strange. i apologize if i sound like a supernewbie.

It's not a big deal, but I'm 99.9% sure the Chandler/Zodiac stuff originated right here in very early 2004. It did originate here, and I said as much in the first blog entry I ever wrote about it (which is offline now, unless you know how to find it in the web archive). I believe the poster I originally quoted was "Nightdriver." I saw the link to John Doe from a Nightdriver post on a ZodiacKiller msg board and then started doing some research. What was weird was how I kept finding reasons to think there might be a connection after all, rather than reasons to doubt or dismiss a connection. The story of John Doe/Joe Chandler is weird enough by itself. Adding in the theory that he might have been Z is only garnish.

I was relying on my memory, unfortunately. I think I read Steve's blog before I even looked at the Zodiac forums, so, that's why I remembered it that way. I should have known anything noteworthy regarding the Zodiac will be found here on Tom's board. However, I still have to credit Steve with really working the story. Anyway, thanks for the corrections and clarifications. Nice to see you posting, Steve (btw, I really enjoyed MyCase.com). I will be refurbishing the Ohio John Doe page. The Zodiac angle is indeed interesting, and very feasible. The Joseph Newton Chandler story is very intriguing, if not altogether creepy. I don't buy that he was an innocent man, like some would claim. He has to be hiding something very dark. and not to beat a dead horse, but didn't i read on your site that at one point he was living in the VIRGIN islands... and darlene told her sister the man who was following her was from the virgin islands... Stephen Craig Campbell, wanted by the Feds for explosives and firearms violations, was spotted in the Virgin Islands. On of my tie-ins to Chandler was that Doe/Chandler may have been married to a Cuban woman, Cuba being in close proximity to the Virgin Islands.
